Tech addiction among adults is a rampant problem that bleeds into work. Our 3 national surveys on digital distraction at work found that US employees indicate they use their phones during work hours --- for personal reasons --- for 2 hours each day, with 75% reporting social media is their main distraction. Our research reveals that his reduces organizational productivity, and causes accidents that injure, kill, and destroy property. It also causes frustration, tension, and interpersonal conflict. Schools that wish to prepare students for their future work lives would do well to begin now to teach them how to self-regulate their inappropriate recreational phone use. In this seminar we present our astounding findings on tech addiction during the workday, and use this to inspire schools to make self-regulation of recreational tech use a school virtue.
